Embrace the Tradition of Grass Tennis
Dating back centuries, grass tennis courts were the original surface to be played on. In the United States today, grass surfaces make up less than one percent of the nation’s tennis courts. With 16 grass courts that emerge from the dramatic natural sand dunes of central Wisconsin, Sand Valley provides an authentic grass tennis experience that few other destinations provide.

Sand Valley’s tennis facility is the largest public grass tennis surface and is one of fewer than 10 public grass tennis facilities in the United States.
Tennis Attire
Players are welcome to embrace the tradition of grass tennis and Wimbledon by wearing white tennis attire (optional). We request that players wear only smooth-soled shoes.
Open to Everyone
The courts are open daily during the season to both resort and day guests and provide a fun experience for all skill levels.
Events
Our team can help create an event unique to your group and ensure that you enjoy world-class tennis in the natural surroundings of Sand Valley.
Ball Persons
Players are encouraged to request one of our ball girls/boys who significantly enhance the experience by retrieving and supplying balls, adapting to your playing style, and helping speed up play.
The Essentials
Need a racquet for the day? Sand Valley offers complimentary racquet rentals for all guests. Balls, grips, and other necessities are available for purchase in the Tennis Pro Shop (Tennis Center basement).
Instruction
Participate in the ultimate grass tennis experience by taking advantage of private, individual drills, and group drills (up to 8 players).
Additional Services
Sand Valley now offers restringing of tennis racquets. Additional charges apply.
The Original Racquet Sport
Court Tennis is the original and oldest of all the racquet sports dating back more than nine hundred years. It is sometimes called "the sport of Kings" as royals such as King Edward III and Henry VIII frequently played. In the beginning tennis started as an outdoor version of handball, played in alleys, courtyards and streets of rural France. By the fifteenth century, the racquet was invented and the current, asymmetric shape of the court – designed to replicate a street with awnings and shop windows and doors - was standardized.

Sand Valley’s Court Tennis facility is one of only 12 courts in the United States of America and the most Westerly. There are 48 courts Worldwide in Australia, France, and Great Britain.
